Temperatures and Energy Bills

The passive solar design and improved building thermal shell of the Energy Efficient Demonstration Home, allows the home to maintain a warm temperature in winter without heating. This makes the home more comfortable and healthier to live in, and cheaper to run.

Monitors that measure temperature and humidity have been placed around the home. The charts below show the temperatures in the different parts of the home using data from these monitors. Data of outside temperatures has been sourced from the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM).

Note: The house maintains a much warmer temperature than outside, especially the north facing rooms (Living, Master Bedroom, Bedroom 2). The south facing rooms (Media, Toilet) are not as warm, but they do gain heat from adjacent rooms and maintain a much warmer temperature than outside at all times. The minimum temperatures in the home of between 12-16 degrees occurs between around 3am-7am, when occupants are in bed. This is also without curtains on the windows at night.
